The Electric Water Heater Heating Element with Magnesium Rod will better guarantee the performance and service life of the electric water heater.
The role of magnesium rod
- Anti-corrosion: The inner tank of the electric water heater is usually made of metal such as stainless steel, and the water contains a variety of electrolytes, which will corrode the metal. The chemical properties of magnesium are more active than iron, stainless steel, etc. When the magnesium rod is installed in the inner tank, it will form a primary battery with the inner tank metal. The magnesium rod acts as an anode and reacts with the electrolyte in the water first, thereby protecting the inner tank metal cathode from corrosion. This method is called sacrificial anode protection.
- Slow down the formation of scale: The calcium and magnesium ions in the water will form scale such as calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide when heated, which will not only affect the heating efficiency, but also aggravate the corrosion of the inner tank. During the corrosion process, the magnesium rod will release magnesium ions into the water. These magnesium ions will combine with the anions in the water first, reducing the probability of calcium and magnesium ions forming scale. Although it cannot completely eliminate scale, it can effectively slow down its generation speed, thereby reducing the adhesion of scale on the heating tube.
