The 18AMC series thermal protector is a current and temperature sensing device. When the temperature of the protected appliance increases, the heat generated is transferred to the bimetallic element. When the predetermined operating temperature is reached, the bimetallic element quickly operates, opening the contacts and severing the circuit. When the temperature drops to the rated reset temperature, the bimetallic element automatically resumes the circuit.

When current flows through a bimetallic element with impedance and abnormal operation occurs, the bimetallic element rapidly activates, opening its contacts and interrupting the circuit as the current increases or the ambient temperature rises to a set value. When the device cools to a safe operating temperature, the contacts automatically close, resuming normal operation. This device is widely used to protect single-phase and three-phase motors from overheating due to abnormal operating conditions such as overload and stall. It is also suitable for overheat protection and temperature control of general electrical appliances such as choke coils, spiral vacuum tubes, and transformers.
