This is a liquid-expansion type manual reset thermostat (temperature limiter), a core safety protection component in storage-type electric water heaters and other similar devices, used to prevent overheating and dry burning.

Working Principle:

It operates based on the principle of thermal expansion and contraction of liquids.

I. A slender metal temperature-sensing tube is filled with an easily expandable liquid or gas. When the detected water temperature (or other medium temperature) inside the device rises to a safe threshold, the internal medium expands due to heat.

II. The pressure generated by the expansion pushes an internal diaphragm or bellows, triggering a mechanical structure that opens the contacts, cutting off the heating power.

III. After the temperature drops, it does not automatically reset. The yellow reset knob must be manually rotated to reclose the contacts and restore the circuit, thus preventing the device from automatically restarting in a faulty state.
