Product Description

The typical type cartridge heater (the most popular structure) is the same as the heating element in structure. Generally it is composed of the below parts: insulator, sealing material, leading rods, filling material, electric wire, metal protective casing and the terminal. The spiral heating wire and the leading rod are located in the middle of the metal protective casing, its manufacturing technology is to thread the spiral heating wire through the seamless steel pipe, copper or aluminum tube. And meanwhile, filling the gaps with insulated as well as heat-conducting oxidation medium evenly via the multi-tube filling machine. For example, the magnesium oxide powder(also available alumina or clean quartz sand, etc.). Then shrink the pipe diameter with the contracted pipe machine, so as to compact the oxide medium(to make the density to be more than 3.3 g/cm³), which can ensure to the heating wire to be insulated from the air. 

Then the calorific value per unit area can be increased by more than a dozen times. Also the life time of product can be corresponding increased to more than 10 years. Compared with the same electric heating element, the tubular electric heating element can save 5% electric heating material, and the thermal efficiency can reach above 90%.

Product Structure

1. Power Rating (Wattage)
Power requirements: Determine the required wattage to heat the target area effectively. This is often calculated using the formula:

Consider the heat loss, temperature rise, and thermal mass of the object being heated to select the appropriate power rating.
2. Operating Voltage:

3. Operating Temperature Range:
Cartridge heaters have a maximum temperature they can withstand. Select the heater with an appropriate temperature range based on the application. For instance:
Standard heaters can reach temperatures up to 600°F (315°C).
High-temperature models can exceed 1000°F (540°C).
4. Dimensions and Size
Diameter and length: The heater should fit the space or hole where it will be installed. Measure the hole or mounting area precisely to ensure proper fit.
Thermal conductivity: The heater's size will also affect its efficiency. Ensure that the heater's size allows for proper heat transfer to the object being heated.
5. Material of Construction
Cartridge heaters can be made from different materials:
Stainless steel: Ideal for high resistance to corrosion and high temperatures.
Inconel: Used for very high temperatures and extreme environments.
Nickel-chromium: Common for general heating purposes.
The material must be chosen based on the heating environment and exposure to corrosive materials.
6. Thermal Conductivity and Heat Transfer
The efficiency of a cartridge heater is influenced by the material in contact with the heater. Make sure that the heater will be installed in a medium (such as metal, plastic, or liquid) that will efficiently transfer the heat.
Using the right insulation around the heater can also help improve heat efficiency.
7. Resistance to Vibration and Mechanical Stress
If the heater will be exposed to mechanical stress or vibration (e.g., in motors or industrial machinery), select a rugged and durable cartridge heater that can withstand those conditions.
8. Lead Wire and Connection Type
The heater will need lead wires for power supply. Select a heater with the appropriate lead length, material (such as silicone, fiberglass), and termination type (e.g., terminals, plugs, or bare leads) for your application.
9. Power Density
The power density refers to the amount of heat produced per unit area of the heater. High power density is useful for quickly achieving high temperatures but can lead to faster wear and reduced lifespan. A lower power density will provide more uniform heating and longer heater life.
10. Thermostatic Control and Safety
Consider adding a thermocouple or temperature controller to the system to regulate and monitor the temperature. Overheating can damage both the heater and the surrounding materials.
Look for models with built-in over-temperature protection for added safety.
11. Customizability and Mounting Options
Some applications may require customized cartridge heaters with specific wattages, sizes, or shapes. If necessary, choose a manufacturer that offers customization options.
